Stenciling with decorative plaster

We would like to inspire you to experiment with the use of a stencil that goes beyond simply repainting a pattern on the wall. In this article, we will present a very popular method of decorating walls with decorative plaster.

It undoubtedly looks amazing and is not as difficult to make as it may seem. Decorative plaster, especially the one imitating architectural concrete, offers unlimited possibilities of creation. It is easy to apply and does not require great experience in handling with a trowel and plaster mass.

To create a spatial decoration with the use of a stencil, we can use various materials, such as: hard gypsum, acrylic plaster, travertine plaster, stucco, any decorative structural plaster, and even ordinary gypsum putty will be perfect. The choice depends only on what the end result we want to achieve. By mixing them with various additives such as glitter, metallic dust, decorative sand, fluorescent powder or simply with the help of decorative paint, we can create a unique decorative element that will delight everyone.
The most important stage in creating a decor is the preparation of the substrate. Here, special attention should be paid to thoroughly clean the surface of any dirt or unevenness and precisely apply the primer or primer paint to make sure that our decor sticks well.

When the most anticipated moment comes, that is, creating a pattern, we can only be limited by our imagination. The methods of execution vary. Some, wishing to obtain a convex pattern, stick the template to the surface and apply a structural mass on it – this is the most commonly used method. Others, who want to create a concave pattern, obtain it by impressing the template in the previously applied material. Then it looks unusual but just as amazing.

It is important that the stencil is properly attached. You must also remember to remove it from the surface immediately and after the applied mass has dried, dust it or smooth it in order to get rid of thickenings and sharp edges, of course if our goal is to obtain a smooth surface. Finally, acrylic lacquer can be applied to the pattern, but is not required. By supplementing the mass with additives or finishing the decor with them, you can get a shimmering mandala emerging from the wall or dots with a 3D effect, gaining convexity thanks to their fluorescent properties.

As you can see, the stencil is really not that scary and the satisfaction with the work done is guaranteed.
